Mascha Gugganig

Mascha Gugganig is a PhD candidate in Anthropology at the University of British Columbia and a fellow on the STS Program at Harvard University. Her submission to the Visual Essay Competition was called Making Dust come to Matter: The Scaffolding of Academia and is based on a film Mascha made in 2011called hidden practices (it can be viewed here). In her own words,

This visual essay explores the infrastructural setting of academia and contemplates the ways it shapes a particular understanding of capacity building that scaffolds successful scholarship.

“We live in a time of the dissected soul, the immediate disclosure; our thoughts, imaginings and longings exposed to the light too much, too early and too often, our best qualities squeezed too soon into a world already awash with too partly articulated ideas that express our sense of self and our sense of others (Whyte 2015)
